The Salesians of Don Bosco came to Ghana in 1992. Bishop James Owusu of Sunyani invited the first pioneers (Fr. Isaias Torres from Venezuela, Fr. Michael Karikunnel from India, Fr. Ivan Stojanovic from Bosnia, Fr. Andreas Kroworsch and Bro. Michael Schmitz from Germany) for helping the local church in the work of evangelization and education needed for the moral and social development of this country.

The work for the less fortunate in different parts of the diocese began immediately after their arrival. A programme for street children in Sunyani (Don Bosco Boys Home) and an Oratory attached to "Mary Help of Christians" Parish in Odumase village provided first help for people in need.

Today the salesian community of sunyani are in charge of the parish of Odumase with 9 outstations, the Don Bosco Technical Institute, the Novitiate and the Boys Home.
